Chen Xiaojia, Chairman of CITIC Construction, met with Valdimir Norov, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on December 21, 2020.

Chen warmly welcomed Norov’s visit to CITIC Construction, saying that the SCO is playing an increasingly important role in maintaining regional security and promoting regional cooperation in multiple fields. CITIC Construction and the SCO members, including Uzbekistan, the home country of the secretary-general, have nearly two-decade history of cooperation and sound mutual trust. CITIC Construction, as a Chinese state-owned enterprise, has been promoting the practical cooperation between China and Uzbekistan with concrete actions, closely coordinating with the industrial planning of the local government, and promoting bilateral and multilateral economic and trade exchanges. CITIC Construction is confident in the successful implementation of the natural gas chemical project in Bukhara, Uzbekistan and will spare no efforts to organize the best industrial and financial resources to build the project into a model of mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation within the framework of the SCO and the Belt and Road Initiative. CITIC Construction eagerly hopes that with the great support of Secretary-General Norov and the joint efforts of all parties, the cooperation between CITIC Construction and the SCO members will achieve new breakthroughs in the future.

Highly commending CITIC Construction’s successful implementation of many large-scale projects involving national economy and people's livelihood in Uzbekistan and Central Asia, Norov noted that the company is a well-known brand in Uzbekistan and even in the former Soviet republics. It is hoped that CITIC Construction will invest its comprehensive industrial and capital advantages in the cooperation between the SCO members including Uzbekistan and CITIC Construction and take the Uzbekistan’s Bukhara natural gas chemical complex project as an opportunity to make greater achievements in bilateral and multilateral economic and trade cooperation in the region, and make more contributions to improving the well-being of local communities and people.

Yang Jianqiang, Vice President of CITIC Construction; Liu Jie, Assistant President of CITIC Construction; and relevant heads of East Europe and CIS divisions, were present at the meeting.
