On January 19, 2020, Farouk Chiali, Minister of Public Works and Acting Minister of Transport of Algeria, visited and inspected the 84 km eastern section of the east-west highway in Algeria in the accompany of the governor of El-Tarf and the director of the Highway Administration of El-Tarf.
Farouk listened to reports on the progress of the project and the removal of obstacles, and conducted a on-site inspection of the entire project. After the inspection, Farouk said in a group interview with local media that currently, the 85% of the 84 km section had been completed, adding that he was satisfied with the progress of the project despite the influence brought about by complex geology, multiple obstacles and the COVID-19. Affirming with the quality of the project, the minister hoped that all parties relevant to the project would continue their efforts and take measures to speed up the implementation and deliver it as soon as possible.
Principal officials from Algeria Division of CITIC Construction Africa Division and cooperation institutions accompanied the inspection.
