It is the first time that a Chinese enterprise won Hong Kong's railway electromechanical equipments installation project through bidding, which challenged the domination position of the overseas companies in this field in Hong Kong. Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway Corporation (now known as MTR Corporation Limited) took the lead in adopting the "Owner and Contractor Partnership System" in the project. The project involved railways of a total length of 12.5km, five stations and one parking lot. The project contact was signed in June 1999, which stipulated that CITIC Construction was responsible for design, products supply, installation and commissioning. In October 2002, the company successfully completed the project.
